Mother jailed for duct tape attack on child
A young mother has been sent to prison after strapping her 22-month-old son to a wall in their home with duct tape.
Jayla Hamm, 18, and her partner Corde Honea, 19, covered the boy's body in the adhesive material and left him suspended above the floor, reports the Daily Mail.
The pair were only caught after friends seized a digital camera on which they had taken pictures of the distressed youngster crying during the attack.
Police revealed Hamm and Honea tied the child to the wall purely for their own entertainment and even teased him by holding a bottle just out of his reach.
Hamm, of Beatrice, Nebraska, US, will now serve ten days behind bars and remain on probation for a period of two years, the newspaper states.
Defence attorney Jeff Davis had appealed for a non-prison sentence, claiming incarcerating the mother would only be to the child's detriment and could risk halting the progress that has been made by the two since the attack.
But judge Paul Korslund rejected the plea, telling Hamm: "What makes it shocking in particular is there's an expectation that it's a matter of common sense that a parent would protect her child from humiliation and abuse.'
Meanwhile, Honea was last week sentenced to between 36 and 60 months inside for intentional child abuse, as well as 24 to 60 months for a charge of burglary and a further 12 to 24 months after being found guilty of possessing a stolen firearm.
