Hadj M'rizek (1912-1955) whose real name was Arezki Chaieb was born at 4, Thebes street in the Casbah, Algiers . He developed an interest for music at a very early age and thanks to his half brother Mohamed K'hioudji, he learned a few tunes he liked to sing with a group of friends. Hadj M'rizek was appreciated by many especially in the Valley of M'zab where he often performed. Most of his lyrics were composed by Cheikh Nouredine as well as by the poet Dris El Alami who wrote Arassi Noussik and Sid Thami El Medeghri who wrote the famous Qahoua wala Taye. Hadj M'rizek was known to be a distinguished gentleman.
