  • Le secteur bancaire en Algérie selon OBG

A propos du secteur bancaire en Algérie, Oxford Business Group écrit dans son rapport "L'Algérie émergente 2007":

Although the Algerian banking sector is relatively small, activity is heating up and the industry is getting itself into shape to benefit from the country's economic recovery. Currently, cash transactions predominate in the country; only 15% of the populace utilise ATM cards; deposit rates are low; the number of bank branches stands at only one per 30,000 people; and credit only represented around 25% of GDP in 2005, as compared to over 60% in Tunisia and Morocco. However, modernisation efforts are in place, such as updating the interbank payments system and bank surveillance. Indeed, the potential of the Algerian banking market has caught the eye of several large foreign players. At the same time, the focus is on the People's Bank of Algeria (Crédit Populaire d'Algérie - CPA), the first major public bank to be privatised. If successful, this should provide inspiration to the other private sector banks, which have so far made only a cautious entry into the market.
